Madera County Supervisor David Rogers tells GV Wire that someone aimed gunshots at his house Saturday (April 14) night.

Rogers said that he was at home with his wife watching TV around 9 p.m. Saturday when they heard shots coming from the front of their house on the outskirts of Chowchilla.

All of the sudden shots rang out in rapid-fire succession. (My wife) turned off the TV and hit the floor. I immediately went to my gun for protection. It was a pretty frightening sound.” — Madera County Supervisor David Rogers

“All of the sudden shots rang out in rapid-fire succession,” Rogers said Tuesday evening. “(My wife) turned off the TV and hit the floor. I immediately went to my gun for protection. It was a pretty frightening sound.”

Rogers said he checked to see if his neighbors were all right. One of them told him they saw a car speed away. Rogers then called the sheriff’s office.

GV Wire asked Rogers about the incident after receiving a tip from another local elected official earlier Tuesday.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to GV Wire that shots were fired at the house Saturday night.

No One Hurt

Rogers said that the bullets struck a retaining wall in the front of his house. Six shell casings were found in the driveway. No one was hurt.

“My wife was nervous and frightened. I just had heightened adrenaline. I was worried about my neighbors,” Rogers said.

Rogers is unsure if he was targeted because of his political office.

“For all I know, this could be random, someone having a good time. I don’t know,” he said.

But, he added, it was also possible that it was intentional. He said there have been no credible threats against him.

Rogers praised the deputies for their quick response and follow-up investigation. “(They are) everything you want in law enforcement,” Rogers said.

Vigilant About Safety

Since the incident, Rogers says, he’s more vigilant with his safety. He said that he is a concealed weapon permit holder.

Rogers, a two-term District 2 supervisor, is running for a third term in the June 5 primary. He faces Madera Unified school board member Al Galvez.
